About
Mission: The mission of the Department is to educate students to become graduates equipped with the knowledge of modern concepts of engineering required by Chemical Engineering profession, who will be able to solve the problems of industries and other institutions in order to use their knowledge and abilities with professional and ethical responsibility, and to contribute the development and dissemination of science and technology in the country and in the world through basic and applied research.
Vision: The vision of the Department is to take effective roles at national and international levels among the departments of Chemical Engineering, and to contribute the development of science and technology through basic and applied research.
Program Educational Objectives: The educational objectives of Chemical Engineering program are to educate students become graduates who have
History and Progress: The Department of Chemical Engineering was initiated in Faculty of Natural Sciences, in 1976. In 1982, it became one of the departments of Faculty of Engineering after establishing the Turkish Council of High Education (YÖK) coverage program. At the beginning, the department had lack of teaching staff and equipments, giving education with 10 students. In the last decade, the teaching staff of the department was strengthened by PhD’ s both from abroad and the department itself, therefore, an atmosphere with a wide research interest was created. Today, the Department’s yearly undergraduate enrolment is approximately 66 students. The education and laboratory training is currently carried out in two-separate buildings.
Education: The Department of Chemical Engineering offers courses with laboratory training leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The courses are designed with consideration ofthe modern concepts of chemical engineering education and new requirements of the industry. The core curriculum provides a background in basic sciences, engineering sciences and economics to enable the graduates to be leading contributors to several interdisciplinary areas. In the light of these principles, the department of chemical engineering has prepared courses and set-up laboratories to serve undergraduate and graduate students. In the first two years, the undergraduate students take the general and fundamental engineering courses, such as chemistry, calculus, physics, material science etc. In the last two years, however, the majority of courses are based on the chemical engineering areas. Along with the academic training composed of compulsory courses and 18 elective courses, the students are also required to participate in minimum 40 days industrial summer practicing program, in areas approved by the department, following the second and third years.
Major scientific divisions of the department are 1. Chemical Technology 2. Process and Reactor Design 3. Unit Operation and Thermodynamics
Graduates and Careers: The primary objective of the Chemical Engineering program is to educate students for different positions in chemical process industries, governmental institutions and academia. All graduates who gained the ability of engineering can work in every aspects of chemical engineering, such as, textile, petrochemical, food, medicine, cement etc.
Researches: The research areas at the Department are
